Cowboy Bebop Proves That We Need Pain

November 4, 2021

On this episode of Out of Frame, we take a look at a classic, brilliant anime, Cowboy Bebop. In a universe where earth was made nearly uninhabitable and interplanetary travel and living is abundant, corruption and crime reign supreme, and it’s up to contracted bounty hunters to catch criminals and bring them to justice.

On top of being a fascinating near-future landscape, Cowboy Bebop’s themes of pain, suffering, struggle, and how they can shape people to be better versions of themselves is ultimately what makes the show a standout. It pushes us to consider that the consequences of our actions create meaningful incentives to make different choices in the future.

Experiencing pain isn't fun, but the danger when people don't bear the costs of their actions is much worse.
